Why families choose Dear Animal

Individual cremation, always

Every pet is cremated alone in the chamber. We never cremate pets together, for any service or price level. You are welcome to stay and watch your pet being placed into the chamber yourself.

Clear pricing by weight

Prices are set by weight bands and published in full below. Ceremony packages already include the cremation fee. Nothing is added afterwards.

Collection from home or clinic

We can collect your pet from your home or from your veterinary clinic anywhere in Chiang Mai, so you do not have to make the journey yourself.

English support by message

Our team answers in English on Facebook Messenger. You can ask about pet cremation in Chiang Mai, get a full price and arrange everything in writing, without a phone call — useful if your Thai is limited, or if you would simply rather not speak while you are upset.

How it works

1. Message us

Send us a message on Facebook with your pet’s species, approximate weight, your location, and when you would like us to come. We will recommend the option that fits and confirm the total price before anything happens.

2. We collect your pet

Our team collects your pet from your home or clinic, quietly and respectfully. You are also welcome to bring your pet to us yourself.

3. Farewell and cremation

If you have chosen a package, we prepare flowers and a space to say goodbye, and a monk performs the Buddhist farewell rite. Your pet is then cremated alone, in a chamber built for pets.

4. Ashes returned to you

Once the chamber has cooled, the ashes are cleaned, sorted and placed in a ceramic urn or a white cloth bag, whichever you prefer. You can wait and take them with you, or we can deliver them to your home for a distance-based fee.

Which pets we care for

Dogs and cats are most of our work, but they are not all of it. We arrange pet cremation in Chiang Mai for rabbits, birds, hamsters, hedgehogs, snakes, iguanas and other companion animals. A small pet is given exactly the same individual cremation as a large dog.

Our chamber takes pets up to 60 kg. The published price table runs to 50 kg because that covers almost every pet we see; if yours is heavier, message us and we will quote you directly rather than guess.

If your pet died at the veterinary clinic, we can collect from the clinic instead of your home. Tell us the clinic name and we will contact them ourselves, so you do not have to arrange it while you are grieving.

A farewell that fits your family

The ceremony packages on this page include a Buddhist rite, because that is what most families in Chiang Mai ask for. It is not the only option, and nothing is compulsory.

  • A Christian service can be arranged instead. Tell us when you book.
  • No religious rite at all is perfectly acceptable. Some families simply want quiet time with their pet, flowers, and the cremation. Choose the cremation-only service and we will still give you the room and the time.
  • Scattering the ashes on water — in Thai, loi angkarn — is a local tradition in which the ashes are released into a river so the spirit can travel on. We can arrange this after the cremation if you would like it.
  • A pet coffin is available for families who want one.

Children are welcome. Several families bring them, and being allowed to place a flower for a first pet is often easier for a child than being kept away from it.

Taking the ashes home with you

Many of the expat families we help are not staying in Thailand forever, and they want to know before the cremation whether the ashes can travel with them. It is a fair question to ask first, so please do ask. Here is what we can and cannot do, plainly.

What we provide. The ashes are cleaned and placed either in a ceramic urn or in a white cloth bag, whichever you prefer. Tell us which you would like before the cremation.

What we do not provide. We are a pet cremation service, not a customs agent. We do not issue export permits, veterinary certificates or any other official documentation, and we cannot tell you what your airline or your government will accept.

What you should do. Contact your airline and the customs or animal-import authority of your destination country before you fly, and ask exactly what they require. Rules differ a great deal between carriers and countries, and they change. Some airlines also ask that ashes travel in a container that can be screened by X-ray, so check that the container you choose is acceptable before you pack it.

We would rather tell you this honestly now than have you discover a problem at the airport.

Questions families ask

Are pets cremated together?

Never. Each pet is cremated alone, for every service including the ฿800 cremation-only option. You may stay and watch your pet being placed into the chamber, so you know the ashes you receive are your pet’s.

My pet died at night. What should I do?

Wrap your pet in a clean cloth and place them somewhere cool with moving air, away from sunlight. Message us straight away and we will arrange collection as early as we can.

How long does pet cremation take?

A private ceremony takes around two to three hours. Cremation itself takes thirty minutes to an hour and a half depending on size, and the chamber must cool before the ashes can be collected.

How large a pet can you take?

Our chamber takes pets up to 60 kg. The price table runs to 50 kg — if your pet is heavier than that, message us and we will quote you directly.

Do I need to book ahead?

Ceremonies run three times a day, at 10.30, 13.30 and 16.30. Booking ahead secures the time you want, but please contact us any time if the situation is urgent.

Do you speak English?

Yes, by message. Our team replies in English on Facebook Messenger, usually within the hour during opening times. Telephone calls are answered in Thai only, so please message rather than call.

Can I take my pet’s ashes abroad from Chiang Mai?

We place the ashes in a ceramic urn or a white cloth bag, whichever you prefer — tell us before the cremation. We do not issue export permits or veterinary certificates. The rules are set by your airline and your destination country, so please confirm with both before you fly.

Do you cremate rabbits, birds and other small pets?

Yes. Rabbits, birds, hamsters, hedgehogs, snakes, iguanas and other companion animals all receive the same individual cremation as dogs and cats.

Can we have a ceremony that is not Buddhist?

Yes. A Christian service can be arranged, or no religious rite at all. Ash scattering on water and a pet coffin are also available. Tell us what you would like when you book.

Can I visit before deciding?

Yes. You are welcome to come and see the facility and the ceremony space before you decide anything. Message us and we will arrange a time.
